Plan Details

A walking tour of “Kurikoma Muikamachi Shopping Street,” a Showa Era retro streetscape. Stroll a street lined with nostalgic signs and buildings, and experience grilling taiyaki and pounding mochi while interacting with locals. You can enjoy warm and peaceful moments, as if you’ve stepped into the past.

Course Details

1:00pm – 1:30pm
Hear about the history of the shopping district from a local guide while walking and taking in the scenery
1:40pm – 2:40pm
Immersed in the midst of the shopping area’s retro atmosphere, enjoy making taiyaki under the guidance of an English-speaking shop owner. Vegan and halal options are available, so everyone may participate without worry.
① Taiyaki Introduction: In the orientation, learn about what makes taiyaki unique, and how to make it.
② Taiyaki Model: The owner of “Kurikoma-ya” will model how to make taiyaki.
③ Experience & Tasting: You’ll get to make your own taiyaki, and enjoy it in the shop as a treat afterwards.
An indispensable part of special occasions, the tradition of pounding mochi has been passed down for generations. In this experience, you will use a large mortar and pestle to make mochi. After it’s finished, you’ll try a unique regional style of eating your mochi.
You can enjoy a super-local “good fortune mochi” (mochi with a fortune hidden inside) with this experience.

– As the work space is quite narrow, we only accept up to 5 people at a time. Groups of 5 or more are possible, and will result in to being split into 2 groups.
-Please use caution when handling hot materials or equipment so as to not burn yourself.
-Please wear clothes and shoes easy to move in.
– For matters related to dietary restrictions such as vegetarians and allergies, please inquire.

7 ~ 2 business days prior to reservation: 30% of reservation fee
1 business day prior to reservation: 50% of reservation fee
No-shows and day-of cancellations: 100% of reservation fee
