Mimamori Hachimaru Ranch

Mimamori Hachimaru Ranch ~Experience the Symbiosis of Horses, the Forest, and the Land~

In this program, participants will ponder the question of how to build relationships which are mutually nurturing. Through work where people and horses, people and forests, and people and the earth move toward mutual well-being, we provide the starting point for discovering the skills that enable participants to savor the ‘here and now,’ and learn how to use it towards the mutual happiness and well-being of others.
Let’s explore how to make the most of life and work through these interdisciplinary learning experiences.

Course Details

① Reception & Orientation
After arrival and reception, staff will give you a tour of the site while explaining the ranch’s background and daily activities. Afterwards, an overview of the day’s program and items of note will be presented.

② Horse Program
Staff will explain the unique characteristics of horses and their body language, and demonstrate how to interact with them. You’ll have an opportunity to interact yourself, followed by another staff demonstration of how to use non-verbal communication to cooperate with horses. For safety purposes, staff will always be close by. We hope this experience will invite you to think deeply about the importance of non-verbal communication and relationship building.
③ Forest Program
Moving to the adjacent Mimamori woods, safety helmets secured, staff will explain Mimamori’s unique approach to forest development. At the same time, we will clearly explain the functions and roles that forests fulfill.
When you finally enter, have a look around and get a feel for the forest. Next, you’ll try a teamwork activity using a machine through which humans and horses work together. This machine demonstrates how to borrow the power of large horse breeds to help transport felled logs in a manner with minimal impact on the Earth. Experience not only the strength of invisible bonds, but the harmony interwoven between humans and horses, a beautiful collaboration which transcends species.
④ Agriculture Program
Next you’ll learn about using sustainable agriculture to grow vegetables and rehabilitate the soil. Staff will introduce the agricultural initiatives and the ideas that Mimamori values most. Depending on the season, you can try harvesting vegetables and taste them too. Through living in harmony with nature, and embracing not only soil and plants but also the smallest lives like microorganisms and insects, we can share its blessings and mutually support one another.
